Inspiration for handmade cards

Where do you find inspiration for your handmade cards?  I know I search a lot on the internet (especially Pinterest!) but you can also find inspiration from other sources like clothing, bedding, magazine photos, and flowers.  Look at these beautiful roses I received from Dottie who attended my Stamp Camp this week!

These gorgeous flowers came from her garden and I LOVE the colors!  They also smell wonderful but you’ll have to take my word for that 😉  I wanted to make a special card for Dottie to thank her and tried to capture the vibrant colors using Stampin’ Up! inks.  How do you think I did?

Using the roses as inspiration for this handmade card, I chose So Saffron and Calypso Coral for my flower.  I inked up the flower from Simple Stems in So Saffron and used a Sponge Dauber to pat on the Calypso Coral ink around the edges before stamping onto Whisper White cardstock.  To get the dimensional look, I stamped that flower three times and cut out a full flower, then just the middle section and then just the center section.  Each layer was added with a Dimensional and the edges were slightly curled with a Bone Folder.  Here are the other images from that set:

See the flower at the top left?  I stamped that flower in Pistachio Pudding and trimmed out the middle petals and used them as leaves – genius, right?  😉  I also slightly curled the leaves with the Bone Folder to give more dimension to the lower part of the flower since it was looking a little top heavy.  The base of the card is Pistachio Pudding and the background is stamped with the En Francais stamp in Pistachio Pudding ink.

The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and is stamped inside the label image from Label Something.  I inked up the label image in So Saffron and then used the Sponge Dauber to pat on the Calypso Coral ink before stamping.  If I had stamped it just in Calypso Coral, it would not have matched as nicely to the flowers.

The Label Something stamp set is a great choice because it works with a lot of our punches and there’s nothing faster than stamping an image and punching it out!  I’m really excited to send this card to Dottie.  Do you think she’ll enjoy it more knowing her flowers were the inspiration for this handmade card?

  1. Wow, great card Brenda, Dottie will be so delighted – the colors are just like the real thing. Shame you can’t bottle that beautiful scent.

    • Stampin’ Up! used to carry scented Embossing Powders and if you lightly scratched the embossed image, you could smell it 🙂

  2. Such a lovely gesture by Dottie, such a lovely card by you Brenda.

    • Dottie also brings home baked treats so the girls that come to class on Wednesdays get to enjoy her baking too!

  3. Hi Brenda, I just found keenankreations and I love your work. I’m always looking for new ideas, keep up the good work

    • Thank you Arlene!
