Ombre Technique for cards
Have you heard of the ombre technique for cards? Well I hadn’t but recently saw some samples shared by demonstrators that attended the Stampin’ Up! Leadership in January and I was inspired to give it a try 🙂
This card is pretty simple and uses strips of our cardstock that measure 1 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ and is layered onto Whisper White cardstock. I embossed the cardstock strips with the new Arrows Embossing folder and Big Shot. I was able to line them up in the folder, one after the other, and emboss them all at the same time. I wanted to try to keep the pattern lined up exactly from one strip to the next and embossing them together made that possible.
I added the first strip at the top and worked my way down. I ended up with a wider white edge at the bottom when I was finished (hey, we’re not perfect, right?) so I just trimmed the bottom a bit to keep everything even.
To create the ombre technique for this card, I used the following cardstock colors:
- Soft Sky
- Tempting Turquoise
- Pacific Point
- Midnight Muse
The tree image is from the new stamp set called “Look Up To Father” from the Occasions Catalog:
I trimmed the greeting from the image and mounted it to the skinny side of the wood block so I could use the greeting and the tree separately.
When I’m mounting stamps to the wood blocks, especially greetings, I take time to make sure they are on straight. Then when I’m using that stamp, I know that if the edge of the wood block is lined up straight then my greeting will be stamped straight too 🙂
I think this card will be perfect for Father’s Day but also a variety of other occasions too.
