Easy Watercolor Technique

You can create a beautiful card with an easy watercolor technique using Stampin’ Up! new “Happy Watercolor” stamp set from the Occasions catalog!  This is such an easy yet elegant card that you can put together in under 10 minutes, maybe 5 😉

The base of the card is Pistachio Pudding and measures 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and scored down the middle at 4 1/4″.  The Whisper White cardstock is trimmed to 3 3/4″ x 5″ and is popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The Whisper White cardstock is thinner than our colored cardstock so I added another piece underneath (cut just a smidgeon smaller) to sturdier it up a bit.  I stamped the flower stem from “Happy Watercolor” in Black Stazon first and then stamped the “watercolor” stamp in Pistachio Pudding three times without reinking.  You need to press very firmly on the last stamping as there’s very little ink left on the stamp.

I chose a greeting from the “Wetlands” set and stamped in Black Stazon too.  I usually choose clear mount stamps but have recently begun selecting wood mount for my greetings.  I take time to make sure they are mounted on the wood blocks straight so I know when I use it, I don’t have to fuss with lining it up again.

I added Pearls (medium size but the smallest ones would work well too) to the flower centers and a small glittery butterfly for a final, sparkly touch :-)   The butterfuly is punched with the Bitty Butterfly Punch and our Silver Glimmer Paper.  See how the wings are popped up?  I folded the butterfly in half and added Glue Dots to the center – this is what adheres the butterfly to the card.  I added a tiny part of a Dimensional to the underside of each wing but did not remove the paper backing.

I really loved this easy watercolor technique and decided to create a few more using different colors.  I changed the Whisper White cardstock to Shimmery White and cut it down a bit smaller to 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″.  The Shimmer White cardstock is sturdier than the Whisper White and I didn’t need the extra layer underneath.  I also love the beautiful sparkle of that cardstock.
