How to alter the Flip Card

Yesterday, I said I would show you an easy way to alter the Flip Card to allow a larger area for writing or adding a sentiment that wouldn’t show when the card was closed.  With a traditional Flip Card, the greeting needs to fit on the back side of the part that flips or at least hidden by the part that flips.  With a few adjustments, you can have a larger area for a greeting or personal message.

(The Witch’s Brew Designer Series Paper shown above has a black background with print on one side and the Summer Starfruit pattern on the other side)

You’re going to start with a piece of Designer Series Paper that measures 5 1/2″ x 5 3/8″.  Slip the left side that is 5 1/2″ under the curved part of the Circle Card Thinlits Die and leave the right side on top of the Thinlit.  Run it through the Big Shot with the normal layers:

  • Magnetic Platform (or regular platform on Tab 2)
  • Cutting Pad
  • Thinlits Die
  • Paper (left side tucked under, right side on top of Thinlit)
  • Cutting Pad

The Thinlits die will only cut the curved part of the paper.  Now just layer the curved part of the paper so it lines up with the curved part of the inside of your card (make sure to layer just short of the score line so the paper doesn’t buckle when the card is closed).  Fold the right side of the paper towards the center making sure to line up the folded edge to the edge of your card.  Layer a 2 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ Very Vanilla cardstock to either the center or right side of the card like the sample shown above.

Hope you found this tip helpful 🙂  Please let me know if you have questions about other Stampin’ Up! products – I’d be more than happy to help!
