Easy Color Wash Technique

Check out my latest video demonstrating a super quick technique called "color wash" using the "Lovely as a Tree" stamp set:

Anyone else THRILLED that this stamp set did not retire?!  I made a bunch of these cards today and they were so much fun and very easy :-)

I stamped the "Lovely as a Tree" image in Black Stazon on Watercolor Paper, used the Aquapainter to quickly swipe the ink back and forth across the stamped image.  The Watercolor Paper is cut to 3" x 4 1/2" so you can get four pieces from one sheet of the Watercolor Paper.  This was then layered to Basic Black (3 1/8" x 4 5/8") and then layered to Bashful Blue or Wild Wasabi cardstock (8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4").

Do you like the Bashful Blue or Wild Wasabi background better?

You can shop for these supplies and more at my online store.  Have a great day!

Extra income

You'll earn extra income based on your sales and recruiting - just how much extra income is up to you. Maybe you want enough income to pay the electric bill every month, or maybe your goal is bigger - the monthly payment for your new car. That's the beauty of the demonstrator experience - it's all up to you!

Flexible schedule

This is your business, so you can put as much (or as little) time into it as you'd like!

Support from Stampin' Up!

We love our demonstrators and it shows through our demonstrator support materials. Plus, you'll receive our bi-monthly magazine just for demonstrators, which is full of informative tips and beautiful samples.

Here's some more basic information:

FAQs about Being a Demonstrator
1. What are the minimum sales requirements?

You only need to submit $300 in sales per quarter. That is less than an average Stampin’ Up!® workshop! Also, you can submit your sales in any increment you wish and still receive your 20 percent discount and commission.
2. What if I want to do this as a hobby and not necessarily a business?
Stampin’ Up! supports all demonstrators, no matter their goals or the level at which they choose to run their business. If you choose not to hold workshops, you can simply place your own orders and/or collect orders from family and friends to equal the $300 quarterly sales minimum.

(If you sign up in May, you will have until the end of September to meet your first quarterly minimum :-)
3. Can I be my own hostess?
Yes, you can be your own hostess anytime you want. Invite your family and friends into your home and have a workshop. You will be the hostess, receiving the hostess benefits, as well as the demonstrator, receiving your instant income and commission.
4. How much does it cost to get started as a demonstrator?
The Starter Kit is only $99, and is fully customizable. Through May 30th, you choose up to $155 worth of any current Stampin’ Up! products, and you will also receive a business supplies pack containing materials you need to run your business (valued at $65).
5. How can I make money as a demonstrator?
You can earn money in three ways: instant income (20 percent of each order), monthly volume rebates (5–20 percent of total sales), and monthly downline override commissions (2–6.5 percent of your recruits’ sales).
6. Do I have to recruit other demonstrators?
No. If you were to recruit demonstrators, you would be paid override commissions on your downline’s sales, but this is a perk, not a requirement.
7. Where will I get project ideas for my workshops? What kind of training can I expect?
Stampin’ Up! provides dozens of training resources filled with project ideas and tips to help you run every aspect of your business, including a bi-monthly publication called Stampin’ Success, Demonstrator Support agents, a demonstrator-only website, hundreds of samples, annual and seasonal catalogs, a training DVD, the Demonstrator Manual, and a Product Guide.

(You also get me as your Upline!  I have been a demonstrator for 12 years, earned the last 7 incentive trips and ranked in the top 100 3 times in the last 4 years.  I offer monthly meetings for the demonstrators in my group, maintain Yahoo and Facebook groups and provide personal training as requested :-)
8. Is Stampin’ Up! a well-known, respected company?
Since 1988, Stampin’ Up! has been selling rubber stamps and paper-crafting supplies. In that time, not only have we won industry awards and accolades, but also the loyalty and admiration of demonstrators and customers alike. And that is a trend that we work hard to maintain. You can rest assured that the reputation of Stampin’ Up! will only continue to improve!
9. What if I decide that I don’t like it once I’ve started? Will I be penalized if I quit?
You may choose to stop at anytime, and you will not be penalized. You simply stop placing orders. However, there are many benefits to remaining an active demonstrator.

By the Tide masculine birthday

Here's a fun card for my make-n-take at Cottage Crafts on Monday, May 20th, 11:30-1:30pm:

I was going to layer the stamped cardstock onto a colored cardstock but decided I liked the crisp, clean look of Whisper White layered to Whisper White :-)

I tore the edges of two large post-it-notes and masked a 2" section towards the top of the Whisper White cardstock (4" x 5 1/4").  I used Soft Sky ink and a Stampin' Sponge to color in that section.  The lobster and fish are stamped in Midnight Must, the seashell in Island Indigo and the words in Marina Mist.  The masks are removed after everything is stamped.  The coral at the bottom is stamped in Soft Sky and the greeting in Midnight Muse.

Stamps:  By the Tide, Bring on the Cake
Ink:  Midnight Muse, Marina Mist, Island Indigo, Soft Sky
Paper:  Whisper White
Accessories:  Stampin' Sponges

Stop by and see me tomorrow!

We had our group meeting last night and here are our swaps:

by Joan Ricky (showcasing some new products from the new catalog!)

by Karine Gonzales (she masked off the different sections and brayered ink to create the blocks of color and then stamped the Lovely As A Tree image)

by me :-)  (using new products from the new catalog!)

by Catherine Au (she used the White Stazon to stamp the Woodgrain image and also to distress the Crumb Cake cardstock)

by Juliette Bryson (she also demonstrated a great technique to stamp all the letters in a word at once :-)

Aren't these gals talented?  If you would like to join my group of demonstrators, you can receive an extra $30 of product in your kit (for a total of $155) for only $99 through May 30th!  And the shipping is free too - another 10% savings!  Please call me with any questions you might have about demonstrator benefits and requirements.  You can also view details at my Stampin' Up! website and if you're ready to go, just click the "Join Now" link on the left:-)

My Paper Pumpkin samples for April's kit

Here are my sample for the My Paper Pumpkin kit for April:

This one is per the directions in the kit

I distressed the edges on the first layer and popped up the three self-adhesive die-cuts.  I wrapped the twine around the tag and chose not to use the silver button.

I went a little "grungy" on this one and distressed the edges of all the papers and the silver button with the Black Stazon ink.

I embossed the first layer with the Stripes Embossing Folder and Big Shot and stamped the entire greeting inside the quote tag.

Did you receive your April kit for My Paper Pumpkin?  Share the link with your samples so I can how your put your cards together.

If you have not yet subscribed to My Paper Pumpkin and want to give it a try, just go to My Paper Pumpkin and click the "Join" button at the top right.  Be sure to select me as your Demonstrator if you don't already have one :-).  You also need to sign up before the 10th to get the following month's kit (remember too that your first month's kit will be the starter kit).  Contact me with any questions :-)

Just Believe - retiring soon!

I found really pretty cards by Dena Rekow and Vicki Burdick and came up with these variations for the make-n-take tomorrow at Cottage Crafts in San Jose:

The largest image from "Just Believe" was stamped in Basic Gray on Whisper White cardstock (2 1/4" x 4 1/4") and layered on patterned paper (So Saffron or Regal Rose).  Pretty ribbon was added and layered to Basic Gray cardstock.  The greeting from Petite Pairs was stamped in Basic Gray on Whisper White cardstock, punched with the Lg Oval punch and layered onto cardstock (So Saffron or Regal Rose) punched with the Scallop Oval punch.  Flowers are punched with the Boho Blossoms punch and Pearls are added to the centers.  Flowers and greeting are popped up with Dimensionals.

You'll get to choose either pink or yellow for your make-n-take :-)  So come join me from 11:30-1:30pm.  Thanks!

New "Sneak Peek" Stampin' Up! set :-)

The new Stampin' Up! catalog is scheduled to go live on May 31st - a whole day early!!!  Demonstrators are lucky to be able to pre-order some of the new products because Stampin' Up! knows we simply cannot wait ;-)

These cards use a new stamp set called "Wildflower Meadow" and it has a coordinating Embossing folder!

I grabbed various markers (Wild Wasabi, Real Red, Summer Starfruit, Primrose Petals, Raspberry Ripple, Wisteria Wonder, Island Indigo) and used the brush tip to add inks to the stamp.  I wasn't too careful about blending in the brush strokes either - I like the variation in inks and think it works well for a water coloring look.

This one just uses the Pistachio Pudding ink (brand stinking new In Color!) and cardstock for a tone-on-tone look.  You can also see the dotted background of the stamp on this card.  Wouldn't this be pretty stamped in all the new In Colors and given as a gift to someone special?  (Hmmm, maybe I see a give-away in the near future ;-)

So are you a little bit excited about the new catalog?  Would you like to get your hands on one?  Early?  It's easy, just place a minimum $25 order with me in May and you'll get your new catalog when you pick up your order :-)  Call or email me soon!

Swallowtail with Emboss Resist Technique

I'm spending more time on Pinterest these days and found a beautiful card by Michelle Humphrey (she credited Robin Merriman for inspiration) and came up with these:

The ones above and below use the "Floral District" Designer Series Paper

The one below uses the "Tea For Two" Designer Series Paper

These cards were SO much fun to create and will be one of the projects for my May Stamp Camp :-)  The "Swallowtail" stamp was inked in Versamark, stamped on the designer series paper (3 7/8 x 5 1/8)and then embossed with Clear Embossing powder.  I used Basic Gray ink and a Stampin' Sponge to rub ink over the embossed image and on the edges of the paper.  I tied a soft knot in the Gray/Black 1 1/4" Two-tone ribbon and added to the bottom part of the embossed paper.  This was then layered to coordinating cardstock (Baja Breeze, Melon Mambo or So Saffron 4 1/8 x 5 3/8) and then layered to Basic Gray cardstock (5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4).

The greeting from "Curly Cute" was stamped in Basic Gray at the top.

Which color combination do you like best?

Happy Stamping!

Watercolored Manhattan Flowers

My apologies for the delay in posting - our family has been dealing with a nasty 24 bug, one at a time :-(  But I'm back now and wanted to share some watercolored cards with you :-)

I made this first card about a year ago and never got around to offering it as a class.  I recently found it again and thought it would be fun to create a video tutorial which you can see at my new YouTube channel:

I believe the first one uses Calypso Coral and So Saffron inks to watercolor the roses.

This one might be my favorite and uses Marina Mist and Midnight Muse.

This last one uses Pretty in Pink and Rich Razzleberry.

The watercolor paper is embossed with the Manhattan Flowers Embossing Folder and Big Shot.  An Aquapainter is used to watercolor inside the embossed lines.  A sanding block can be used to lightly sand the raided edges to remove any ink.  They're pretty, huh?

Which one is your favorite?

Hope you enjoy the video too :-)

Take care!

Brenda Keenan
